The white rock is lithium-bearing ore and the black rock is waste material. Both of these rock types would be extracted during the mining operations. A full-scale photometric sorter located adjacent to the secondary crushing circuit could reject up to 15% of the waste rock (the black material) before entering the process plant, potentially lowering operating costs by reducing the tonnage of material processed through the plant.
